Drizzle canola oil into pan. Add the syrup, soy sauce, sesame oil, mushroom powder, and garlic. Put the heat on low to let the syrup get soft. Put the heat on high. As soon as the syrup starts to boil, add the seitan. Toss well. Let is cook for a minute.

Turn off the heat and put pan aside. Add the green onions and toss. The green onions will start getting soft from the heat. Best to serve while the green onions are still crispy. Serve immediately. I usually cook ahead of time. I reheat and toss the green onions right before serving. Garnish with sesame seeds.

Vegan Mongolian Beef (seitan) 

  • 2 cups seitan, cut into strips
  • 1/2 cup korean syrup
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoon mushroom powder
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • Black pepper, shredded
  • 2 green onions
  • sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
